Here is my tribute to my mother, Diana. I sit here on the runway about to depart after dropping my first born off to college. So many thoughts and emotions are triggered reminding me about when my parents dropped me off at college.
It’s not just the books, bedding and snacks that my mother made sure I had in my dorm room, It was the values that she instilled in me that prepared me for a lifetime. She told me to choose a career that would provide me with a skill in order to support myself. When I bombed my first few exams, had relationships go south with friends and literally thought my world was coming to an end, my mother had the unconditional love and support that got me through. Mostly by pushing me to figure it out for myself.
I  truly believe that children model the behavior of their parents. My mother worked full time as a Special Ed Teacher, had dinner on the table every night and made sure my sisters, my father and myself had everything we ever would need. As I entered adulthood, I expected the same life for myself. I was raised not to be entitled and that there are no free rides. I was taught to treat people with respect and make wise choices.
After almost 3 years, I continue to mourn the loss of my mother although She is still so alive in my heart. No one can ever take away all the values that she instilled in me. My biggest hope is that I give my son and daughter what my mother gave me: STRENGTH!!!
