Gail comes to mind when I think of a strong woman! She was my Hospice Coordinator.  I was new to vigil volunteering and she really made me feel comfortable with the process of onboarding as a volunteer. Another strong woman in my life always said to me, “when you meet a woman you admire, emulate her”  I was nervous about volunteering to sit vigil with families while their loved ones were so ill. This is the most challenging event of their life. But when I got going and met with so many amazing people, I was aware I was helping.  I had something to give even if it was only my presence.  Gail said something to me I will always remember, “ When we think too much of ourselves and our own interests, we feel unfulfilled. When we work for others, our efforts bring joy in to our lives.”  She was right.  Working with her I understand that now.  I learned to forget myself in the service of others.
